ABOUT HATC
The High Altitude Training Centre is founded in 1999 by Lornah Kiplagat. Lornah Kiplagat is 4 times World Champion. She has held World records over 5 K, 10 Mile, 20 K and Half Marathon and competed for the Netherlands in the Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), and London (2012) Olympics. She also won the World Championships Cross Country in Mombasa in 2007 and competed in the 2003 World Championships track. At the end of 2008 she made the decision to focus much more on the road and especially the marathon.
The HATC is open to athletes and tourists from all over the World, and welcomes runners, tri-athletes, mountain bikers and people who just look for a nice and quiet place where they can relax and train.
HATC is at an altitude of 2400 metres in Iten, 32km from Eldoret. Iten is the capital of the World for athletics, there are over 800 athletes training in Iten and among them are World Champions, Olympic Champions and World record holders.
The Centre is surrounded by miles of dirt roads, perfect for running and mountain biking, the HATC has a 25 m swimming pool, a fully equiped gym, a 400m all weather tartan track.
Also there is a 400 metre dirt track and there are plenty of hills.
Lornah is also well known for what she is doing outside the sport. She is the founder of the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation, ambassador of the Min. of Development in the Netherlands and ambassador of the Jeugd sport fonds in the Netherlands. On top of that, Lornah started her own sports apparel brand in 2014, named Lornah Sports.
